Sigma Alpha Iota

Why Join?

Sigma Alpha Iota is an organization meant to promote interaction among those sharing a commitment to music. Members of SAI are active in all areas of campus music and campus life and often work closely with faculty, administration, campus and community groups, music professionals and patrons. In addition to personal encouragement and support, members may receive scholarships, loans and awards in many areas and levels of music-related study. Sigma Alpha Iota also provides the opportunity to join alumnae chapters, providing a lifetime of fraternity contact.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is ΣAI?

-Sigma Alpha Iota is an international women’s music fraternity.

Do I Have To Be A Music Major Or In A Music Ensemble?

-Being a music major/minor is not required. Members must only complete one music class (marching band and music appreciation count!) and demonstrate a sincere interest in music. Our chapter is diverse in the majors our members have chosen.

What if I’m not eligible?

Don’t worry! If you don’t meet one or more of the requirements, feel free to still come to rush week and meet the girls. We initiate new members every semester, so if it doesn’t work out, we’d love to see you at the next rush week.

Can I afford it?

Sigma Alpha Iota is one of the most inexpensive Greek organizations on campus. We also hold several fundraising opportunities to help you pay for your expenses. We want to do everything we can to make sure that money does not become an issue during your time in our organization.

Will I have fun?

Although we pride ourselves on being a professional fraternity, we like to have a great time too! Through rush week events, formal dances, service projects, ceremonies, and several sisterhood events including dinners, sleepovers, craft nights and more, you will find that there is plenty to enjoy in our fraternity!

I don’t know if I have time.

Sometimes prospective members can feel like a fraternity is too much of a time commitment and that their schoolwork, social life or work will be affected. It’s true that there are time commitments expected of members. However, we understand that our members have other obligations and will try to work with you as best as we can. SAI holds scholarship as one of its biggest priorities and expects the same from its members. Several of our members have jobs, are involved in other campus organizations and activities, and have demanding majors. It can be done!

Does ΣAI haze?

Absolutely not! Sigma Alpha Iota maintains a very strict no hazing policy that each and every member must sign her name to. It is crucial that members feel safe, comfortable, and cared for.

Can I be in another fraternity?

Sigma Alpha Iota prohibits membership in other secret music societies including Mu Phi Epsilon, Delta Omicron or Phi Beta. Members are allowed to participate in other fraternities as long as they are still able to fully meet our requirements of membership.
